Park Ranger Talk @ Rocking Horse

Today as part of our eco-schools, the preschool children met Russel and Natalia (Park Rangers) at the Figgate Park as a result of Gillian getting in contact to recieve further information about our community and how we can help the environment and wildlife. Russel and Natalia spoke to us about litter, and the litter problems in the Figgate Park. Natalia showed us some pictures of some animals that were having issues with rubbish, swan’s eating carrier bags, hedgehogs caught in plastic to hold cans together. The pictures made some of us a bit sad but Russel and Natalia assured us that the animals were seen to and were looked after. At that point we decided something needed done and fast! We all put on a ‘Clean up Scotland’ apron, grabbed a litter picker and set off around the Figgate Park in search for rubbish to be picked up.

We spoke about how the Figgate Park being littered makes us sad and that we like to see our community clean. On our way around the pond, We stopped to feed the ducks, swans, geese and seagulls. Natalia brought some wild bird seed for us to give them (Thankfully that is what we feed them) and told us that this is better for their tummy’s than bread, We can even give them carrot and potato peelings. If we only have bread to give them, brown bread is the best. When we were feeding the ducks a woman came and fed the ducks bread, so as helpers of the Park Rangers we thought we should let her know that bread can upset the duck’s tummies and that bird seed is better for them.

We finished our clean up around the Figgate Park and thanked Russel and Natalia for teaching us more about litter and the environment. We felt like super helpers after tidying the park and also letting the community aware of what we feed the ducks.20151027_100511 20151027_100620 20151027_101050 20151027_101056 20151027_101145 20151027_101155 20151027_101233 20151027_101354 20151027_101551 20151027_103057 20151027_103139 20151027_103147 20151027_103218 20151027_103423 20151027_103636
