Today the preschool children at Rocking Horse took part in a ‘Clean up Scotland’ at The Figgate Park. The children got suited and booted with their wellies and their tabards and set off to The Figgate Park in search of litter! The children walked around half of the park with litter pickers and collected the litter to dispose of properly. At Rocking Horse we care about our community and the environment and what’s a better way than to help than to clean our local park?

This activity was great for helping the children develop their fine motor skills, along with taking a good role in our community. This also helps with the children’s understanding of the community and the disposal of waste.

The children enjoyed this activity this morning and we discussed why we need to keep the streets and park clean. The children are aware of some of the dangers that litter can cause to the animals the live in the park:

“The ducks beak can get stuck in plastic and really hurt it.”

“A little mouse could get trapped in a bottle or can.”

“Broken glass could cut a dog, or a fox, or a cat’s foot.”
